Bhilai: With the arrest of a man and his mother, Police claimed to have solved a murder case within few hours of the crime. The man had killed his wife by hanging her after prolonged domestic clash. Later, he tried to hide the evidences and tried to present it as a death due to illness. ASP (Rural) Lakhan Patle informed that cops of Machandur Chowki (Utai PS) received information regarding a suspicious death in village Khopli on July 27.
The relatives of the deceased had started preparing for performing last rites. On information, Chowki I/c SI Shyam Singh Netam accompanied with Utai SHO SI Satish Puriya reached the spot and found that there was a mark on the neck of dead-body. They immediately communicated this information to their superiors. Taking the matter into serious cognizance, SP Prashant Thakur directed the ASP (Rural) Lakhan Patle, SDOP (Patan) Akash Rao Girepunje and Forensic Expert Dr Pankaj Tamrakar to reach the spot and conduct investigation. The team found that the cause of death was suspicious. The deceased was Lokeshwari Sahu (30) wife of Khumaan Sahu.
Police team strictly questioned the in-laws of the deceased and recorded the statements of her siblings. Lokeshwari’s brother Yogesh Sahu and his sisters informed that she had contacted them on mobile phone on July 26 and had informed them about domestic violence she was suffering. Later in the evening, Lokeshwari talked to her sister and expressed fear that her in-laws will kill her. She had even asked her sister to take her away from her in-laws place.
When police strictly questioned her husband Khumaan Sahu, he admitted domestic violence and stated that Lokeshwari used to talk with some unknown man on mobile phone and it was the reason behind the quarrel. During sustained interrogation, he confessed to have murdered his wife. Khumaan informed that he quarrelled with Lokeshwari on July 27 over the same issue. Khumaan and his mother Rohini Sahu beat her black and blue and when she became unconscious, they hanged her with the ceiling fan using towel as a rope. Khumaan further added that he became frightened after killing his wife. So they used a sickle to cut the noose and bring the body down.

Later he contacted his friend Purendra Verma on mobile phone and narrated a fabricated story to him. Khumaan informed him that he had quarrelled with Lokeshwari after which she has committed suicide. When Khumaan requested Purendra for help, he reached there with one Naveen Chandrakar. Khumaan insisted that his wife has committed suicide but he will get trapped in her death case as they had quarrelled before this incidence. Purendra and Naveen got convinced and they decided to help Khumaan. They took him on bike and threw the sickle in a nullah and burnt the towel which was used as noose.
Next morning when Lokeshwari’s brother Yogesh Sahu reached there to take her with him, Khumaan and his mother informed that Lokeshwari has died due to illness. When he saw his sister’s body, he felt that the death was suspicious and immediately informed police.
Police seized the remains of the towel which was used as noose and the sickle. Police have arrested the accused husband Khumaan Sahu (34) and his mother Rohini Sahu (55) on charges of murder and have booked them under the provisions mentioned in sections 302, 201, 34 of IPC. Purendra Verma and Naveen Chandrakar have also been arrested on charges of helping the accused in destroying the evidences. Police have seized the used which was used in this act.
Utai SHO Sub Inspector Satish Puriya, Machandur Chowki I/c Sub Inspector Shyam Singh Netam, SI Bhupendra Ogre and staff of Utai and Machandur played vital role in solving the case.
