Naiduniya, Korba (Snake Bite). A young man died of snakebite in village Baigamar of the district. The snake which had bitten the young man was kept in a basket by the villagers. The snake was also tied up and taken to Muktidham along with the funeral procession, where it was burnt alive on the pyre of the young man.
Mansa Ram Rathia lives in village Baigamar. Apart from his wife, he had two sons in the house. After having dinner on Saturday night, everyone went to sleep in their respective rooms. 22-year-old son Digeshwar Rathia also went to sleep in his room. He was sleeping on a cot with a mosquito net.
At night, a poisonous krait snake entered the mosquito net and bit his leg. When the young man got up from the bed and looked, the snake was wrapped in the mosquito net. He got up and informed his relatives about this.
He was brought to the District Medical College Hospital for treatment. The young man died during treatment on Sunday morning.
After the incident, there was resentment among the villagers against the snake
The deceased’s father Mansa Ram said that Digeshwar was the eldest son of the family and along with studying, he used to help in farming. There was anger among the villagers regarding the incident.
The villagers say that they were afraid that the poisonous snake might make someone else its prey. That is why he was also burned along with the pyre.
There is mourning in the village. The relatives are crying inconsolably. District hospital outpost in-charge Dawood Kujur said that further action is being taken after recording the statements of the relatives of the deceased.
